After participating in the Northampton action, Shays decided to take a bigger part in the protest. He organized a militia with Luke Day to attempt to stop a meeting for the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. William Shepherd had anticipated there to be a protest, so he organized a militia to protect the meeting. The day came and Shays saw that there was a large group protecting the meeting, so Shays and his group decided just to demonstrate. The court adjourned without hearing any cases. Shays also had a few more successful protest in the following months.
